Copyright Ownership Statement
Unless otherwise expressly stated in a written and signed agreement, all creative works—including but not limited to video footage, photography, and related media content—produced by me, Michael Melton, in the course of my professional work, are and shall remain my exclusive intellectual property under the United States Copyright Act (Title 17, U.S. Code).
In accordance with U.S. copyright law, ownership of creative works is automatically vested in the creator at the moment of fixation in a tangible medium of expression. These rights include, but are not limited to, the exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, display, perform, and create derivative works.
If a client seeks to obtain full copyright ownership of any work created, a written contract must be executed prior to the commencement of work, explicitly stating that the work is considered a "work made for hire" under 17 U.S.C. § 101. Absent such a contract, all rights remain with the creator by default, and any transfer of copyright must be explicitly documented in writing and signed by both parties in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 204(a).
